Ministry of Communications and High Technologies intends to rent orbital position for the second telecommunications satellite Azerspace-2, the Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov said Sept.3.

The low-orbit satellite will be launched into orbit in 2017, the minister said.

"Due to the problems in the issue of coordination of orbital positions belonging to Azerbaijan, a long-term lease of the orbital position of foreign countries was decided," the minister said.

The winner of the tender for the construction of a low-orbit satellite Azerspace-2 will be announced soon. The construction of the satellite will take 30 months. The tender is attended by six companies.

The launch of the first Azerbaijani satellite was carried out February 8, 2013. The satellite is located at the orbital position of 46 degrees east longitude. The service area of Azerspace / Africasat-1a includes the countries of Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.
