Azerbaijan Investment Summit organized by "The Economist Events" has been held in Baku with the participation of high rank managers, economists, regulators and public officials representing major industries of global economy.

Azerbaijan Investment Summit brought together world leading managers and economists to discuss major perspectives, opportunities and challenges faced by the economy in transition. The summit chaired by John Andrews, editor of The Economist, is attended by the leading representatives of the telecommunications, banking, technology, investment and industrial, as well as educational sectors.

Discussions were held in various topics, including "Energy sector - the next chapter: development of the basement for Azerbaijan's economic might", "Beyond the oil economy: establishment of micro-foundation for competitiveness", "Innovations, entrepreneurship and diversification: erosion of barriers" and "Digital era: role of technologies and telecommunications in conditions of new economy".

Vahid Mursaliyev, acting president of Azercell Telecom LLC, leading mobile operator in Azerbaijan communications market, participated at panel discussions. Vahid Mursaliyev, invited to the event by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, joined discussions on the topic "Shifting gears: Azerbaijan's technology driven future" with Elmir Valizada, deputy minister of Communications and High Technologies, Aziz Bayramov, deputy minister of Education, Elchin Aliyev, president of SINAM company, and Reyhan Huseynova, founder and manager of Futurologists Society of Azerbaijan.

Azercell has always brought advanced technological solutions of TeliaSonera group of companies that Azercell itself is a part of, to telecommunications sector of the country. The company was the first to launch 4G technology in the country in 2012. Azercell supports innovative projects in ICT field and facilitates their realization at its Barama Center. The company invested 57 million Azerbaijani manats for the development of telecommunications in Azerbaijan in 2014. During 18 years of its activity, Azercell has made total investment of 1.67 billion manats in the country. With this result, the company remains the largest investor in non-oil economy in Azerbaijan.

Azercell Telecom LLC was founded in 1996 and since the first years sustains a leading position on the market. Azercell introduced number of technological innovations in Azerbaijan: GSM technology, advance payment mobile services, GPRS/EDGE, 24/7 Customer Care, full-time operating Azercell Express offices, mobile e-service "ASAN imza" (ASAN signature) and others. With 51 percent share of Azerbaijan's mobile market Azercell's network covers 99.8 percent of the country's population.

Currently, the number of Azercell's subscribers reached 4.6 million people. In 2011, Azercell deployed 3G and in 2012 the fourth generation network - LTE in Azerbaijan. The company is the leader of Azerbaijan's mobile communication industry and the biggest investor in the non-oil sector.

Azercell is a part of TeliaSonera Group of Companies serving 186 million subscribers in 17 countries worldwide with 27,000 employees.
