Azerbaijan’s National Nuclear Research Center CJSC will present a final report to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to get licenses for the purchase and maintenance of isotopes that are needed to produce sterilization equipment, the Center told Trend.

Three licenses are needed in order to use isotopes. The first license is for the purchase and maintenance of isotopes that have already been obtained, and the other two for the import and transportation – are planned to be obtained until the end of 2016.

“This issue is currently being discussed by Azerbaijan’s Emergency Situations Ministry and the IAEA. We have to present the report to the IAEA until the end of 2016 that we have obtained a license and where isotopes will be bought,” said the Center.

After that, during the next three months, isotopes will be produced and transported to the country, added the Center.

Isotopes will be brought to Azerbaijan in March-April 2017, according to the Center.

The sterilization equipment allows using the gamma irradiation method to destroy microbes that, in turn, increases the period of storage of agricultural products (grain, meat products, dried fruit, potatoes and others), medicines.
