Azerbaijani students design microsatellite

The NaaSat team of the Azerbaijani National Aviation Academy will take part in another "Student Satellite - CanSat" international competition, to be held in the US on June 9, 2017, Akbar Aliyev, design engineer, teacher of academy, told Trend Apr. 21.

CanSat is an innovative scientific and educational project on student satellite launch. CanSat is an active microsatellite model weighing up to 350 grams.

The microsatellite has been already designed and NaaSAT team will present it at the competition, he said, adding that currently, the work is underway to build it.

For the first time, NaaSAT team took part in the competition in mid. 2016, ranking 31st among 40 teams.

The new requirements have been put forward to the participants in the upcoming competition. According to one of the requirements, the microsatellite must operate on solar batteries.

According to the terms of the competition, $1,000 will be allocated for microsatellite building.

While counting points, the competition jury pays attention to the prime cost of the satellite. If the participants manage to build a microsatellite by spending less than $1,000 by retaining all the required functional parameters, the participants will get an additional score.
