Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources has prepared all the necessary equipment for the implementation of the micro-zoning project of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) told Trend.

A seismic hazard map will be worked out as part of the project.

A map of the sites will be drawn up. The seismic activity, impact on water supply infrastructure, gas supply and so on will be assessed in that map.

According to the center, the issues related to the financing of the project, which will be implemented by the German specialists, are currently being solved. Afterwards, the project will be implemented.

"The negotiations on the project implementation have been recently held with Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources,” the center said. “All necessary equipment has already been prepared.”

The contract for the project implementation was signed between the Republican Seismic Survey Center and Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in September 2016. The project implementation period is two years.

Initially, the work will begin in the Sabail district of Baku, where certain sites will be assessed. Then the work will be carried out in the rest areas of Baku and will cover the Absheron peninsula.
