Telia reveals terms of withdrawal from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan

The Scandinavian telecommunications company Telia (former TeliaSonera) plans to withdraw from the Eurasia region, including Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, by the end of 2017

The Scandinavian telecommunications company Telia (former TeliaSonera) plans to withdraw from the Eurasia region, including Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, by the end of 2017, the company’s Press Officer Ralf Bagner told Trend June 22.

“Our ambition is to exit region Eurasia during 2017,” the company’s Press Officer Ralf Bagner said.
He refused to comment whether any companies show interest for Telia’s assets in these countries and if the company is in negotiations on their sale at the moment.

Telia announced its plans to leave region Eurasia in September 2015. According to the company’s press-release, Telia within its new strategy, planned to increase focus on Europe, particularly Sweden, reduce its presence in region Eurasia, i.e. Azerbaijan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Moldova and Tajikistan and fully leave the region Eurasia over time.

However, the company managed to sell its assets just in Tajikistan and Nepal so far, while retaining its presence in the rest of the region.

Fintur Holdings B.V., where Telia owns 58.55 percent of assets, holds share in Azercell Telecom in Azerbaijan. Previously, the biggest mobile operator in Turkey, TurkCell expressed its interest the assets of Telia in Azerbaijan.
