TECHNOPARKS ON AGENDA FOR COMMUNICATION MINISTRY

The Ministry of Communication and Information technologies on June 21 held a roundtable to discuss the ways of building up technoparks in Azerbaijan.

Informing the participants of the history of the evolution of technoparks in the world, as well as the missions and activities of relevant facilities, the head of the ministry’s sector of strategic planning and scientific capacity, Rufat Gulmammadov said that the building and development of technopark infrastructure in Azerbaijan means attracting more capital to the country’s economy, particularly, the field of communication.

A relevant presidential decision has charged competent bodies with the completion of all preparatory necessary for the operation of four technoparks in Azerbaijan by 2010.

“Azerbaijan’s location is an appropriate substantiation to assure that the implementation of such measures will make the country a very important place to do business,” Gulmammadov noted.

Participating in the meeting were the heads Aflatun Mammadov of the communication technologies department and Iltimaz Mammadov of regulation department, as well as the minister’s counselor for WSIS issues, Elchin Aliyev, and representatives of private ICT companies active in the country.
