AZERBAIJAN PARTICIPATES IN MEETING OF WORLD SUMMIT ON INFORMATION SOCIETY

The Azerbaijani delegate participates in the meeting of the 3rd Preparation Committee of the World Summit on Information Society Tunis Stage held in Geneva from 19-30 September. The delegation includes Soltan Hajiyev, the UN DP representative, Elchin Aliyev, the adviser to the Communication Minister on WSIS, Ashraf Shikhaliyev, the head of the Development and Economic Cooperation Division under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ilyas Naibov-Aylisli, the Director of the National E-government Imitative Project.

The 2-week meeting is attending by 130 delegates and 150 shareholders, including international organizations, NGOs and business structures. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is main organizer of the summit focused on overcoming of digital divide and use of information-communication technologies in social and economic development.

In his remarks, Joshio Utstumi, the Secretary General, mentioned opportunities of the information-communication technologies in the achievement of the purposes of the UN millennium. The Tunisian Communication Minister and other officials made speech at the event.

The agenda also includes approval of the agenda and other organization issues, the report of the ICU Secretary General on activities of Subcommittee-2 and Subcommittee-3, submission of the report on activities related to WSIS, the report on regional conferences and subject meetings.
