Catel to apply CDMA EV-DO technology in 2006

The Azerbaijani-U.S. Caspian American Telecommunications LLC (Catel) will apply new CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) EV-DO technology in the country in early 2006. “Appropriate infrastructure for application of the technology are ready,” Sadig Humbatov, the Director of the Company, told Trend.

РЎDMA2000 1xEV-DO standard is determined by the ITU as one of the standards of the 3rd generation of mobile communication. The technology provides data transmission with speed 2.4Mbit, organization of high-speedy VPN connection, and wide spectrum of multimedia services.

According to Humbatov, the Company renders services of CDMA 2000 technology and plans to commission different technologic innovation.

The number of the Catel subcribers exceeds 18,000, while technical base allow them to serve 80,000 subscribers.

The Company was established as a result of the consortium of the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry and Omni-Metromedia-Caspian Ltd in 1997. It is the first operator in the communication market, received license on wireless telephone communication in Azerbaijan.
