Population's income

The nominal income of the population totaled 15.042 billion AZN in January-May 2014, which is 4.4 percent more compared to January-May 2013, according to Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 3.1 percent and hit 1,604 AZN.

The population's income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 15 billion AZN, which is 15.3 percent more than in the same period of 2013. The real income per capita increased by 3.3 percent and stood at 1,460 AZN.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. The average monthly salary in Azerbaijan amounted to 436.7 AZN in Jan.-April, 2014, versus 406.8 AZN in the same period of 2013, according to Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

As of April 1, 2014, the average salary of temporary staff was 271.8 AZN, while employees involved upon civil contracts - 294.7 AZN. Remuneration in the oil sector reached 1,791 AZN per month, the non-oil sector - 402.8 AZN, the public sector - 351.8 AZN, the private sector - 563.9 AZN.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communications, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

Labor market

As of June 1, 2014, around 36,900 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 40.8 percent of women.

The number of unemployed has slightly increased since early 2014 (around 36,206 people were officially registered as unemployed as of Jan.1, 2014).

As of early June 2014, the economically active population totaled 4.784 million people, of which 4.547 million people were engaged in labour activity. As of May 1, 2014, the number of hired employees hit 1.511 million people, including 900,700 people worked in the public sector, and 609,800 people - in private sector.

The number of people working in the oil sector amounted to 36,100 people, in the non-oil sector - 1.474 million people. Around 1.467 million people among hired employees work in non-agricultural sphere.

Around 21.9 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 6.6 percent in construction, 6.2 percent in manufacturing industry, 2.9 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.4 percent - in the mining industry, 2.1 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 1.7 percent - in water supply, waste recycling.

Around 22.7 percent of those employed in the service sphere fell to education, 18.8 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.7 percent - medical and social services, 6.7 percent - in the field of public administration and defense, social security, five percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and the arts, 3.7 percent - in professional, scientific and technical activities, two percent - in the financial and insurance, 1.8 percent - in the field of communications and information, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.4 percent - tourist accommodation and catering, 1.1 percent - in other spheres, as well as 0.8 percent - in real estate transactions.

As of June 1, 2014, the largest number of unemployed was registered in Baku (13,814 people, of which 813 people received unemployment benefits) and Aran economic region (10,064 and 429 people respectively).

The Azerbaijani government continues taking measures to increase the employment level. The State Employment Service under the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare held job fairs in Naftalan, Yardimly, Gobustan and Sheki regions of the country in May.

During the job fairs, the citizens looking for a job, will be involved in training courses, as well as paid public work. During the job fairs held in Shamkir and Ismayilli regions of Azerbaijan in 2014, some 233 people got assignment to jobs, 15 people were involved in training courses, while 14 were involved in paid public work.

There was held an event at Azerbaijan Technical University, during which some 160 students and graduates got assignments to vacancies. Around 22 of these vacancies belong to the public sector, while some 138 fell to the private sector.

During the event, organized by the State Employment Service of the Ministry, employers were presented CVs of 705 students and graduates. During the event, 45 people were registered for training courses. Students and graduates were offered a total of 1,245 vacancies by some 116 institutions, including 87 belonging to the private sector. Around 735 of these vacancies are in private institutions. The event was also attended by students and graduates of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction.

The State Employment Service under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population provided some 11,010 people with jobs in Jan.-May, 2014. During this period, around 493 people were involved in paid public work, while 1,298 people were provided with temporary work at the labor exchange.

Social maintenance

The average amount of unemployment benefit in Azerbaijan is 246.3 AZN. The amount of the benefits has reduced by 8.3 percent since early 2014.

As many as 34,876 people get benefits in Azerbaijan for outstanding public service. Averagely, the monthly benefit per person is 134.09 AZN.

As of April 1, some 165 people in Azerbaijan receive an allowance for the honorary title of 'national' (100 AZN per month), while 1,790 people - for the title of 'honored' (60 AZN per month)

Some 424 people receive the Personal Scholarship of the President of Azerbaijan. The monthly amount of this scholarship is 1,000 AZN.

About 18,262 disabled war veterans receive an average of 83.54 AZN per month in Azerbaijan.

Some 802 veterans of the Great Patriotic War get an average of 94.32 AZN of monthly allowance in Azerbaijan. Around 2,810 disabled war veterans receive 84.95 AZN for eliminating the consequences of the accident in the Chernobyl NPP.
