ADB president to arrive in Tashkent

The President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Haruhiko Kuroda will arrive in Tashkent on Feb. 15 for preparation for upcoming annual meeting of the Committee of Directors of the bank in Uzbekistan, ADB office said on Feb. 12.

The President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Haruhiko Kuroda will arrive in Tashkent on Feb. 15 for preparation for upcoming annual meeting of the Committee of Directors of the bank in Uzbekistan, ADB office said on Feb. 12.

In Tashkent Kuroda will visit the place of annual meeting - the central exhibition hall "Uzexport", and to meet the members of government of Uzbekistan. He will also visit projects financed by ADB in Samarkand and Bukhara.

About 3000 employees including the heads of governments, chairmen of central banks, and ministers of Finances and also representatives of scientific community, press and civil society will participate in the 43rd annual meeting of ADB which will be held on 1st - 4th of May.

It will be the first annual meeting of ADB held in the country of Central Asia.

The annual meeting of 2010 will conduct the survey of the process reached within the long-term strategy program of ADB "Strategy-2020", adopted in 2008. The meeting will also cover the questions of reformation of global finance system, post-crisis development of Asian countries, questions of climate change. A number of countries including Uzbekistan will hold presentations of their countries.

Together with the meeting of ADB, a meeting of the ministers of finance of ASEAN+3 countries will be held in Tashkent.

Uzbekistan has joined ADB since 1995. Altogether since 1995 ADB provided $1.29 billion to Uzbekistan for implementation of 30 projects in the sphere of education, agriculture, modernization of transport infrastructure and energy sector and technical assistance for 40, 75 million dollars.

ADB was created in 1966. 67 countries including 48 Asian countries are members of the bank.
