Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 22 / corr Trend U.Sadykhova /

A direct flight will open between Cairo and Baku soon, Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad al-Orabi said in Baku on Oct. 22.

"Direct air flight between Egypt and Azerbaijan will open a new stage in the development of economic relations between the two countries," al-Orabi said.

Al-Orabi is attending a meeting of the cOuncil of Foreign Ministers of the Black Sea Economic Organization (BSEC) in Baku.

Egypt hopes for expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the tourism and oil and gas fields, as well as supply of construction materials to Azerbaijan.

"Though Egypt is a gas producing country and sells "blue fuel" to its neighbors, it could cooperate with Azerbaijan, which is a serious rival gas field," al-Orabi said.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Egypt exceeded $12 million in January to August 2009.
