Swine flu patients in good health: Health Ministry

Swine flu patients are receiving adequate treatment, Especially Dangerous Infectious Diseases Department head at the Health Ministry's Hygiene and Epidemiology Center Elmira Aliyeva said. 

"So far, Azerbaijan has reported 14 cases of the swine flu," she said. "The virus was mainly imported from abroad. One patient is a British citizen and the rest are Azerbaijanis. All swine flu patients are in satisfactory health."

According to the official, if the virus is found in children, they will be sent to Infectious Diseases Clinic No.7. Adults will be sent to the Lung Diseases Research Center. Swine flu patients are currentlly undergoing treatment at these health facilities.

"It is possible to prevent the swine flu by increasing vitamin therapy and strengthening the body. Because this disease is transmitted by airborne droplets. However, the use of masks and respirators is unnecessary as there is no epidemic in our country," Aliyeva said.

According to the official, the patients' homes were disinfected.

All medical facilities belonging to the Azerbaijani Health Ministry have upped their security due to the swine flu. The ministry has given instructions to medical personnel around the country to take preventive measures in their institutions and check all persons registered at each local clinic. According to the ministry, active measures are taken in children's clinics, schools and kindergartens.

The WHO has donated 300 million doses of a vaccine against the A/H1N1 virus to 90 countries, including Azerbaijan. The first shipment will be delivered to the country in November. Vaccination will be carried out among people at risk group.
