State Maritime Administration attends IMO meeting

A delegation led by Azerbaijani State Marine Administration head Gudrat Gurbanov attended the twenty-sixth plenary session of the U.N. International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, the administration reported today.

The plenary session discussed issues of training specialists in maritime transport, heard reports by various committees and adopted resolutions in maritime transport security. IMO member countries were informed about activities implemented jointly by the U.N. and NATO in the fight against sea piracy. The meeting held elections to the IMO executive body.

The Azerbaijani delegation also participated actively in discussions and informed IMO member countries about full compliance with requirements of international conventions to which the country has joined, and that this area is under constant public supervision.
