ICU considers humane Azerbaijani presidential decree annulling gas debts

The Azerbaijani Independent Consumers Union (ICU) considers Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree annulling the population's gas debt humane. The decree says the country is well informed about communal services events in supplying gas to the population, ICU Commission on Communal Services Chairman Alekber Agasiyev said today.

"Annulling gas debt is an expression of the Azerbaijani president's care for the population," Agasiyev said.

Aliyev decided to annul the population's gas debts worth 327 million manat to Azerigas as of Oct. 1, 2009 to strengthen social protection and regulate natural gas consumption costs.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic will receive compensation equal to the debts written off from the 2009 state budget.
