"Kyrgyzstan makes barriers for foreign donors," Raisa Sidorenko, a member of Kyrgyz parliament said Tuesday at a session of the agrarian policy, environment and regional development committee. The session was basically devoted to ratification of a Kyrgyz-Kazakh land lease agreement of the Issyk-Kul lake resort area, news agency "24.kg" reported.
Sidorenko believes that once an investor sets up a claim, the Kyrgyz start talking about the raise of pay and taxes. "China is a good example, where a city boosted within a decade just through a free 5-year land concession. Why can not we create favorable conditions for investors?" she wonders.
The lawmaker offers to reconsider the rent the Kazakhs are going to pay for the land (24,000 soms per 1 hectare of land) and maybe increase it. The initiative reportedly received full support of all members.
