Toyota Motor Corp may recall about 2 million vehicles in Europe to repair potentially defective accelerator pedals, after the same fault caused massive recalls in the US last week, news reports said Monday.
Toyota recalled about 2.3 million vehicles in the US, including Corolla and Camry models, citing a problem with gas pedals that can get stuck, DPA reported.
Accelerator pedal parts produced by US manufacturers are also used in vehicles sold in Europe, Kyodo News said.
Toyota officials are still in talks with authorities in various European countries since recall regulations vary, but the world's largest automaker may issue a voluntary recall even if the situation does not warrant a mandatory one, it reported.
Similar problems are not expected in Japan, but the company is still investigating in other Asian markets, news reports said.
