Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb. 18 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/

Zazu Chelidze was elected the chairman of the State Statistics Service (Gruzstat). Elections were held at the first meeting of the board in Feb. 17. Chairman of the board will also hold the position of executive director Gruzstat.

The board is to submit his candidacy to the president for approval. The head of the state will identify an executive director for four years. Independent board members, which parliament approved last week, will be approved in that period.

Along with independent members the Board also includes vice-president of the National Bank Archil Mestvirishvili, deputy economic development minister Zurab Alavidze and deputy finance minister Irakli Siradze.

Service reform, basic guidelines and technical problems were discussed at the first meeting of the Board, Chelidze said. Service charter and staff schedule of the central and regional offices of Gruzstat were also discussed.

"Some personnel changes will be made in the Service, but they would not be of a large-scale," Chelidze said.
