The Russian Grain Union and the Vegetable Oil Producers Union signed an agreement outlining general principles of cooperation between oilseed producers and processors after a meeting with Russian Agriculture Minister Elena Skrynnik.
The Russian Grain Union reported that the agreement aims to develop the Russian oilseed market while improving the financial sustainability of sunflower seed producers, as well as to establish fair prices on the seeds. The document will also create opportunities to use the seeds as collateral when farmers apply for lending. The agreement also aims to forge a balanced sunflower seed production and processing.
"A minimum price on the seeds no less than 9 rubles per kilogram was also proposed under the agreement," the Russian Grain Union reported.
