Azerbaijan to take part in int'l congress

Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov will participate in an international congress for countries using intelligent traffic management systems in Korea on Oct. 25-29.

Participants will share their experience with traffic management systems and new technologies.

Azerbaijan will fully implement an intelligent traffic management system by late February. The system will regulate and manage passenger transport in Baku. An intellectual management system center will also be constructed by late 2010. Construction began last year.

The project is estimated at approximately 77 million manat.

Under the system, plans include the creating 639 parking areas for buses and some 140 parking areas for taxis. So far, 375 bus stop have been established and 289 more will be opened. Roughly 42 bus stops will also be replaced and 10 more will be liquidated.

The system also include making 450 new bus stops with electronic boards monitoring traffic and bus routes via satellite. Displays and cameras at the bus stops will be used to monitor the effectiveness of the bus stop locations.
