Azerbaijan has the second highest basic pension in the CIS. The basic pension is currently $106, State Social Protection Fund Chairman Salim Muslimov told media today.
The basic pension is $124.20 in Kazakhstan, $90.20 in Russia, $82.10 in Belarus.
"As of July 1, there were roughly 1.29 million pensioners in Azerbaijan," Muslimov said. "The figure will reach 1.38 million by late 2010."
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree establishing the minimal monthly wage at 85 manat from Sept. 1, 2010. The base labor pension is 85 manat.
The fund's income for the first half of the year exceeded 824 million manat, or 65 million manat more than in January-June 2009.
