Azerbaijan plans to increase non-oil export up to $5,000 per capita by 2025

The long-term economic development strategy of Azerbaijan for 2011-2025 prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development aims at increasing the non-oil export up to $5,000 per capita by 2025, i.e. making the country a trade center of the region, Ilkin Majidov, Deputy Head of the Ministry's Strategic Planning Department, reported on Friday. He was speaking at Baku Conference "Socioeconomic Development in the Conditions of Globalization" devoted to Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation.
"Increase of the export of non-oil goods will be chosen as the core objective and will provide the opportunity to optimize the structure of the country's economy and strengthen its competitiveness, which will turn Azerbaijan from the regional leader into a serious global participant of the system of international economic relations," he said.
The key objective of the long-term strategy will be achievement of a high social prosperity and lasting economic growth.
According to him, competitiveness of the economy will be achieved through the preservation of macroeconomic stability, the increase of efficiency of monetary and fiscal policy, the development of the market of financial services, the improvement of financial support to entrepreneurs and business medium, the sophistication of investment and foreign trade policy, the development of transport infrastructure and power supply, the expansion of IT opportunities and innovations, the development of human capital, and the increase of the efficiency of state administration.

The structure of the economy will be optimized at the expense of development of the sector of services and trade, optimization of the structure of investments, increase of the country's solvency, development of non-oil producing and refining facilities, specialization of regions and support to their weighed development, optimization of agricultural production and agrarian structure, expansion of the use of alternative energy sources, and development of the petrochemical and oil and gas industries.
The draft strategy is prepared on the basis of instructions issued by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev after the conference devoted to the results of the first year of implementation of the Second Program of Socioeconomic Development of Regions for 2009-2013.
