Kutaisi metallurgical plant owners negotiate with strikers

Indian owners of the metallurgical plant "Hercules" in Kutaisi have already arrived in Georgia and together with the company's management are negotiating with workers, who went on strike, Georgian Trade Unions Chairman Irakli Petriashvili said on Thursday.

Indian owners of the metallurgical plant "Hercules" in Kutaisi have already arrived in Georgia and together with the company's management are negotiating with workers, who went on strike, Georgian Trade Unions Chairman Irakli Petriashvili said on Thursday.

According to the report, the plant's management is going to familiarize the workers with its proposals.

"The plant has three shifts. Two shifts went on strike," Petriashvili said stressing that three workers continue hunger strike.

The Kutaisi steelworkers held warning strike on Sept.2. They demanded better working conditions and increase in their wages. After that, the management dismissed five workers - trade union activists. In protest, the plant workers held a large-scale strike on Sept.13, some of them went on hunger strike. The plant stopped its activity. The number of strikers hits 200 people at present.
