Kazakh Aktau Port ups grain transshipment by 12 times in January-April

The Kazakh Aktau International Sea Commercial Port increased grain transshipment by 12.3 times in January-April 2012 compared to the same period of 2012, the Port reported on Thursday.

The Port's grain transshipment hit 248,000 tons during the reporting period. Meanwhile, in January-April 2011 the Port transshipped only 20,100 tons.

In March the Port transshipped 72,000 tons of grain.

The total volume of dry and oil cargo transshipped slightly decreased from 3.89 million tons in January-April 2011 to 3.75 million tons in January-April 2012.

Kazakhstan is among the world's major grain exporters. In 2011 the republic had a record harvest of nearly 27 million tons of grain in net weight. Export potential was estimated at 15 million tons.
