Eighth meeting of the Kazakh-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was held in Palanga (Lithuania) on June 5, the press service of Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

Kazakh intergovernmental commission was led by Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rapil Zhoshybayev, Lithuanian intergovernmental commission - by Minister of Economy of Lithuania Rimantas Zhilyus.

A productive exchange of views on a wide range of issues of cooperation in such areas as transport and transit, tourism, education and science, information technology, innovation, industry statistics, standardization, agriculture and health was held during the committee meeting.

Minutes of the meeting, reflecting the promising areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency of Kazakhstan on Statistics and the Department of Statistics of Lithuania on cooperation in the field of statistics, as well as agreement on the establishment of partnerships between the Akkol district of Akmola region of Kazakhstan and Švenčionys area of Lithuania were signed following the meeting.

Members of the eighth session of the Kazakh-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission expressed confidence that the effective work of the commission will promote the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in trade and economic cooperation in accordance with the agreements at the highest level reached during the official visit of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite to Kazakhstan, in October 2011.
