A single landing zone, the so-called System Open Gate is being commissioned at Batumi International Airport for the first time in Georgia and Transcaucasia.

The single landing zone is created for comfort and free movement of passengers who enter a closed area, the TAV Georgia Company which is managing the airports of Tbilisi and Batumi told Trend on Friday.

A passenger crosses the border and enters the single landing zone after passport control and security checks at the terminal. Passengers will not need an extra check before boarding an aircraft.

"We are pleased that Batumi International Airport has joined the ranks of those European airports that already use a system of Open Gate. It will significantly simplify the movement of passengers at the airport and their comfort which is one of our most important principles," manager of Tav Georgia, Mete Ercal said.

An opening ceremony was held at the Airport with regard to the presentation of the Open Gate. It was attended by Mete Ercal, management of the company, chairman of the Government of Adjara Levan Varshalomidze, mayor of Batumi Robert Chkhaidze and other distinguished guests.

Along with the transition to the new system, the passenger reception hall has increased by 60 square metres and the departure hall by 160 square metres.
