Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept 3 /Trend H.HAsanov/
The eighth meeting of the Turkmen-Uzbek commission for trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation will be held in Tashkent on September 3-5, the official Turkmen source said.
The agenda was discussed at a government meeting in Ashgabat. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov issued an order to prepare for the upcoming session noting the important role of this structure in the implementation of the bilateral agreements and further expansion of the effective interaction between the neighbouring countries.
The previous commission meeting was held in April 2012 in Ashgabat, during which the prospects for cooperation in such areas as the production and supply of industrial, energy, as well as teaching and laboratory equipment, agricultural machinery, building materials, furniture ,food, light and pharmaceutical industries were discussed.
In early July, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov exchanged views with Berdymuhamedov on the prospects of intergovernmental dialogue and the two sides discussed international and regional issues of mutual interest.
"Uzbekistan attaches great importance to the development of full cooperation with Turkmenistan," Karimov said.
The Turkmen leader noted that "a constructive political dialogue and mutual support in the international arena, similarity or identity of the parties on a number of issues of international policy contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations."
Berdimuhamedov invited Karimov to visit Turkmenistan. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. Dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
The two states are linked by a number of large projects. In particular, a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was opened in December 2009. The parties shall also consider the possibility of co-operation in the implementation of the railway project that would link Central Asia to the Persian Gulf.
