Iran will unveil a national plan in the near future, with the main goals of boosting tourism and attracting foreign investment at regions along the Caspian Sea, IRNA reported.

The plan is also aimed at increasing safety in the region, creating new jobs, and promoting coastal sports.

The first phase of the plan, including launching a shipping line to the Caspian Sea states, will be implemented within the next two months.

From 2004 to 2010, the annual increase in tourists visiting foreign countries was 3.2 percent worldwide, according to the U.N. World Tourism Organization.

Iran's figures over the same period show tourism here grew at a much faster clip - 12.7 percent, Washington Post reported.

The number of foreign tourists in Iran reached 3 million last year, contributing more than $2 billion to the national economy, according to Iranian data.
