Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has ordered the provision of electricity from alternative sources to facilities which will be used for the international exhibition EXPO-2017. The president stated this at a meeting in Akorda summing up 2012 and outlining plans for the implementation of the "Kazakhstan-2050" strategy.

"We have to turn Astana into a clean, energy efficient, green city. I have instructed the government and Samruk-Kazyna fund to ensure that all power used by exhibition facilities comes from alternative sources. This can be done by utilizing the wind park in Yereimentau and through the use of other facilities and innovations," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

It should be remembered that the capital of Kazakhstan was chosen as the venue for the international exhibition EXPO-2017 on November 22, 2012.

Secret voting took place at a meeting of the 152nd session of the General Assembly of the International Exhibition Bureau (BIE, Bureau International des Expositions) held in BIE headquarters in Paris. 103 of 161 BIE member states voted in favor of Astana.
