Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 31 / Trend, T. Jafarov /
Head of Araz Free Economic and Trade Zone Sadiq Najafi will pay a visit to Azerbaijan in the coming days, spokesman for the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan Mohammad Ayatollahi said today.
Iran is interested in establishing joint free trade zones at its border checkpoints in Julfa, Astara and Bilasuvar, Ayatollahi said.
Najafi will visit Azerbaijan to discuss the issue, spokesman said.
Ayatollahi said that the establishment of joint free trade zones on the border of the two countries is on the agenda. The information disseminated by the media that Iran refuses to create free economic zones is wrong.
Araz free zone is located in north-west of Iran, near the border with Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Its area was initially 9,700 hectares and later increased to 20,500 hectares.
