Heads of CAREC customs and border services to meet in Tbilisi

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will hold a training course for senior representatives of customs and border services of the member states within the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) programme, ADB said on Monday.

The seminar on 'From Baku to Ceyhan ... Overland: Examining Integrated Trade Facilitation in Action at the border and behind the border will be held in Tbilisi from April 9-12.

This training programme aims to contribute to trade facilitation and support regional integration in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) region.

It will also enable participants to gain an understanding of the necessary technology and institutional reforms required for efficient cross-border mobility of goods and people in the CAREC region.

The event is being held to facilitate trade and the maintenance of regional integration in the CAREC. The training will help participants have a better understanding for the need for new technology and institutional reforms for effective transportation of goods across the border and for people in the CAREC region.

The CAREC programme established in 1997 is a partnership of 10 countries- Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and six multilateral institutions: ADB, European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, UN Development programme and the World Bank.

The CAREC programme assists Central Asian countries and their neighbours in realisation of their economic potential through promotion of regional cooperation in four major fields: transport, trade stimulation, trade policy and energy.
