Azerbaijan can double its honey production; according to an interview with department head of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture Chingiz Farajov posted in the official press on Thursday.
According to him, there is currently about 2500 tons of honey produced in the country per year. However, there is a potential to increase the production to 5000 tons.
"Azerbaijan has a rich flora and fauna which offers every opportunity in the country for developing beekeeping. The number of beehives can increase from the current 240,000 to 500, 000," Farajov noted.
According to him, beekeeping in Azerbaijan has begun to develop in recent years and today we cannot say that this industry is secondary.
"Beekeeping has become one of the main branches of agriculture in many regions and in particular, in Astara, Gadabay, Dashkesan and Zagatala," Farajov said.
