Batumi Sea Port’s cargo turnover in Georgia exceeds target by 30 per cent

Cargo turnover at the Batumi Sea Port amounted to 1.195 million tons of dry cargo in Georgia in January-August 2013 with the planned cargo turnover being 1.141 million tons.

According to Batumi Sea Port, cargo turnover amounted to 220,000 tons of dry cargo in August 2013, or by 12,568 tons more than in the same period of last year.

The report went on to say the volume of handled cargo in August 2013 was a record year throughout the history of the port and exceeded the plan of the production programme in August by 46,000 tons, or 26 per cent.

The transhipment of chemical and grain cargoes increased particularly ammonium nitrate to the amount of 73,429 tons (33.4 per cent) of the total turnover of the port and grain to a volume of 30,542 tons (13.9 per cent) during the reporting month.

Growth is also observed on liquid, bulk and packaged goods which amounted to 62,684 tons (28.4 per cent).

The number of vessels handled at dry cargo berths for August 2013 was 30.
