Azerbaijani Transport Ministry implements special plan for First European Games

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport is carrying out work on the reconstruction and expansion of access and link roads to the new Olympic Stadium as part of the preparation for the First Baku 2015 European Games, Deputy Transport Minister of Azerbaijan Musa Panahov told journalists on Tuesday.

According to him a special plan was created for each Olympic complex, in line with which works are being carried out.

Works on the motor roads will allow free access to Olympic objects both for sportsmen, guests and spectators.

In particular, to ensure free access of sportsmen to the complexes, works are being carried out to improve the motor road infrastructure which will allow traveling from Olympic village to the complex.

The deputy transport minister also said that alongside with the reconstruction and modernisation of the existing roads, new ones are being constructed, in particular the road lying parallel to Heydar Aliyev Avenue.

The 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees of the National Olympic Committees of Europe was held in Rome, on December 7-8, 2012.

During the Assembly, the Azerbaijani capital of Baku was approved with over 84 percent of the votes in a secret ballot as the city which will hold the First European Games to be held in 2015.

The opening ceremony of the games, a historical event in sport and the cultural world of Europe will be held on June 12, 2015 and the closing ceremony will be held on 28 June, 2015.
