Visitor flow from Azerbaijan's Bilasuvar checkpoint to Iran increases by 46 percent

The visitors entrance via Bilasuvar checkpoint from Azerbaijan to Iran has increased by 46 percent during the first five months of the current solar year (started on March 21) compared to the same period of the last solar year, deputy Director of Bilasuvar Customs Administration, Asghar Jafarzadeh said, Donya-e-eqtesad newspaper reported.

According to the report, about 240,000 visitors entered Iran through Bilasuvar checkpoint during that period.

Jafarzadeh went on to note that, therapy, visiting relatives and religious places are among main purposes of the visitors.

The Bilasuvar checkpoint is located on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border in Iran's northwestern Province of Ardabil.

In mid-July Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohsen Pak Ayin announced that, about one million Azerbaijani citizens have traveled to Iran during the last Solar year.

There are seven border crossings on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border. At present, five of them - Julfa, Shakhtahti, Astara, Bilasuvar and Imishli checkpoints are operating. Aslanduz customs point has not been operating for a long time.

Construction of the Azadlu Custom checkpoint had been discussed and agreed before during the Iran's cabinet visit to the Ardabil province.
