Turkmenistan has commenced the establishment of the country's national standard base, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The President of Turkmenistan attended the opening ceremony of the State Standard Centre (SSC) - a major object of the national standardization system, built by order of Turkmenstandartlary state service, the publication said.

"The construction and equipment of the State Standard Centre has become an important phase in creation of Turkmenistan's standard base," the newspaper quoted Berdimuhamedov as saying.

Turkmen President said that the creation of a national standard base is important for the integration into the global system of metrology and standardization.

"Currently, none of the sectors of the economy can work clearly and efficiently, not using its own dimensional units system. Because, various technological works are being carried out, as well as the products are also being controlled, with the help of these standards," Turkmen President said.

It is expected that the activities of the SSC will provide a single system of measurement used in all sectors of the national economy, to raise the level of testing of the quality and safety of goods and services up to international standards.

Sectors such as fuel and energy complex, oil industry, textile and food industries, telecommunications and communications will be focused on.

Turkmenstandartlary has been a member of the International Organization for Standardization ISO since 1993. It has been participating in the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification since 1992.

Turkmenistan has been introducing the internationally recognized ISO-9000 standards. The certificates corresponding to this quality system have been obtained by enterprises of significant export-oriented textile, chemical, oil processing industries.

Moreover, Turkmenstandartlary acts as an independent expert service to assess the service quality of agricultural products, especially grain and cotton.

Improvement of the protection of labor and mineral resources, legal and regulatory bases of standardization, strengthening international cooperation with a purpose of removing trade barriers for products manufactured in the country, are being carried out.
