The embargo against Iran had a negative impact on economic relations with Ankara, Iran's Ambassador to Turkey Alireza Bikdeli was quoted today by Sabah newspaper as saying.

According to Bikdeli, if the embargo against Iran had not been imposed, trade turnover between Ankara and Tehran could have reached $30 billion.

The diplomat also said that Iran lost $8 billion in trade relations with Turkey because of the embargo.

"Despite the embargo against Iran, the country's trade turnover with Turkey reached $22 billion in 2012," Bikdeli said.

Iran and six world powers reached a breakthrough in the talks on Tehran's nuclear programme on November 24. The two sides signed a joint action plan in Geneva that involves some easing of sanctions against Iran.
