The total length of new, reconstructed and repaired roads was 6974.9 kilometres in Azerbaijan over the past 10 years, head of the Azeryolservis Company under the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Javid Gurbanov's article published in the official press said today.

According to Gurbanov, 207 new bridges have been constructed in the country over the past 10 years.

Currently, the total length of roads used in the country is 18,994 kilometres, of which 17,521 are serviced by Azeryolservis. Around 4366 kilometres fall to Republican roads and 13,155 kilometres to local roads.

There are 1285 bridges with a total length of 46,578 linear feet on these roads. The total length of roads, avenues and streets of Baku is 1552 kilometres, Gurbanov said.

According to the article, the funds allocated in the country for road maintenance have significantly increased for the past 10 years. In 2003 the figure was 10 million manat, while in 2013 around 222 million manat will be allocated for this purpose.

In 2003 the volume of domestic investments for the reconstruction of roads, bridges and crossings reached 2.4 million manat, while this figure was approved at the level of 975 million manat in 2013.

Around 30-40 per cent of the total funds envisaged for the construction and reconstruction of roads fall to land acquisition, the transfer of residential and non-residential plots, communications, as well as other organised work, the article says.
