Inflation amounted to 1.5 percent in Georgia in December 2013.

Changes in the price of food products and non-alcoholic beverages significantly affected the formation of the monthly inflation figure, GruzStat (Georgian State Statistics Committee) told Trend on Jan.3.

Prices increased by 4.8 percent in the group. Accordingly, the group's share in the index of inflation in December was 1.49 percent. The price increase was due to a hike in the prices for vegetables and melons by 31.7 percent. Those for milk, cheese and eggs have increased 1.7 percent while prices for grapes dropped by 3.5 percent.

A price increase was recorded in the group of housing, water, electricity and gas during the recording period and accounted for 0.08 percent in the monthly inflation figure. Prices for solid fuel in this group have increased by 12.8 percent.

Prices decreased in the sphere of health care by 0.9 percent and the group's share in the monthly inflation amounted to 0.08 percent. Prices for pharmaceutical products and dental services decreased by 1.9 percent and 2.3 percent respectively.

The annual inflation rate in December amounted to 2.4 percent.
