Tashkent Aircraft Production Association SJSC named after V.Chkalov has been redesigned and renamed to Tashkent Mechanical Plant OJSC, a source in Uzbek government's circles told Trend on Thursday.

The decision on reshaping and renaming the company was taken at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders in late 2013, according to the source.

The company will be mainly engaged in production of spare parts for agricultural machinery, as well as consumer goods.

Aircraft production will be completely ceased, but the plant will continue producing spare parts for aircraft in order to provide technical support to aircraft manufactured by the Tashkent Aircraft Production Association.

"During its existence the aircraft factory produced more than 1,000 IL-76 and IL-114 planes, and we will continue providing technical support for these aircraft," the interlocutor added.

Tashkent Aircraft Production Association produced various models of aircraft, wings and center section for AN-124 (Ruslan) and AN-225 (Mriya) aircrafts, including the aircraft IL-76 and its numerous modifications.

In 1996 the association was reshaped into a joint stock company, with 76.6 percent of shares owned by the state, 10 percent by the staff and 6.7 percent owned by Uzbekistan's Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Ministry and the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity.

A bankruptcy procedure with regard to Tashkent Aviation Production Association was launched by the Economic Court of Tashkent in September 2010. In November 2013 the economic court approved a peaceful agreement signed with creditors, and decided to terminate the bankruptcy proceedings.

Over several years, various options were considered for integrating the Tashkent aircraft plant with the Russian aviation industry enterprises, including by means of joining the "United Aircraft Corporation". However, the integration did not take place.

A part of the enterprise's areas was transferred to the authorities of Tashkent, and the remaining part housed the production of building constructions, products, household products and spare parts for agricultural machinery.
