Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 25
By Emin Aliyev - Trend:

Heads of Azerbaijani and Iranian customs administrations will meet in the nearest future, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, Lieutenant-General of the Customs Service Aydin Aliyev told Trend on Friday.

"I have recently invited the Iranian counterpart to visit Azerbaijan during a meeting with advisor to the chairman of the Iranian Customs Administration Mohammad Hossein Bagh Enayat," Aliyev said. "Bagh Enayat also voiced an official invitation of the Iranian Customs Administration Masoud Karbasiyan. I hope that several important issues will be solved during the meeting, to be held in the near future."

"The heads of the Azerbaijani and Iranian customs administrations hold regular meetings and take concrete actions to resolve all problems," he added.

"As for the problems observed in 2013, these questions were partially solved," he added. "There are some points to be clarified at the meeting of the heads of the two customs administrations."

Iran closed the border checkpoints on the border with Azerbaijan in Julfa (the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic) and Bilasuvar on November 7.

The reason was that the Azerbaijani border guards closed the Shahtakhti-Poldesht border checkpoint without any warning after a tractor was fired near the checkpoint.

The restrictions for vehicle and pedestrian passage at the border checkpoints have been removed since November 16, 2013.
