Azerbaijan needs to develop all links of agricultural products value chain

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.20

By Abbas Akhundov - Trend:

Support to entrepreneurial initiatives constitutes the core of state policy for the development of the agrarian sector in Azerbaijan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilham Guliyev said at the international high-level forum on private sector involvement in the development of the agri-food chain in Baku on Feb.20.

"The state has carried out serious work for the development of weak links in the value chain of agricultural products in recent years. Large-scale measures were taken to improve the providence of agricultural producers with high-yielding seeds, breeding pedigree animals, fertilizers, machinery and equipment. The state encourages market participants, as well as provides direct support in assisting Aqrolizinq state leasing company. At the same time, the state provides them with subsidies for various purposes in order to increase the competitiveness of agricultural producers," Guliyev said.

The implementation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's order, signed on January 16, 2014, envisaging additional measures to improve the operation of agriculture and food products market contributes to the development of all links of the agricultural products' value chain, according to the deputy minister.

The order envisages the organization of agricultural cooperatives, fairs for the sale of agricultural products, specialized farm shops, "green" markets, private bases for the storage and sale of products, trading companies, logistics centers, packaging farms, agro-parks, that's to say, new members of this chain, according to Guliyev.

Moreover, the strategy of development of agro-industrial complex in Azerbaijan, the development of which is envisaged by this order, will cover all work on improving the effectiveness of the agri-food chain.
