Singapore PST organizes computer production in Uzbekistan

Uzeltekhprom Association, including the electro-technical enterprises, and Singapore Prescient Systems & Technologies (PST) signed an agreement to manufacture personal computers, a representative of the Uzbek company told Trend on Feb. 20.

A plant with a capacity of 100,000 PCs a year is planned to be established in the territory of the Navoi free industrial economic zone, according to the source.

The project will be implemented through PST direct investments worth $ 10 million in accordance with the agreement.

The production is planned to be launched by late 2014.

It was reported that the Uzbek- Indian joint venture OliveTelecom started manufacturing tablet PCs in June 2013. The design capacity of the joint venture, located in the territory of Navoi zone may reach 13,500 tablets per year by 2015.

The computer market volume has been about 500,000 units per year in Uzbekistan for the last three years.
