A new airline in Kazakhstan will start operating domestic flights from 2015, Chairman of the board of Kazakhstan's National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna, Umirzak Shukeyev said on Feb.27 at a briefing in the Central Communications Service under the country's president.

"We went on to create a second domestic company in accordance with the president's order. The new company will be based mainly on local lines," Shukeyev said.

At a meeting with the head of the Canadian Bombardier company, Pierre Baudouin on Feb.26, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the necessity of opening a company representative office in the republic. Nazarbayev said there are plans to create another national airline 'Air Kazakhstan' that will carry out domestic flights.

Samruk-Kazyna has signed a partnership agreement with Bombardier on the delivery of 10 aircraft which will be used by local airlines, according to the chairman of the Fund's board.

"We must register the company, attract an operator and obtain aircraft by May, 2014. We will begin to carry out flights from early 2015," Shukeyev said.

Currently one carrier, Air Astana operates in Kazakhstan.
