Cargo volume in Eurasian Transport Corridor’s Azerbaijani section decreases

Around 4.6 million tons of cargo was transported via the Eurasian Transport Corridor, TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through the territory of Azerbaijan in January 2014, compared to 4.9 million tons in January 2013.

Around 4.6 million tons of cargo was transported via the Eurasian Transport Corridor, TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through the territory of Azerbaijan in January 2014, compared to 4.9 million tons in January 2013, the country's State Statistics Committee said in its report.

Some 50.9 percent of the transported cargo fell to the road transport, 31.8 percent - railway transport and 17.3 percent - maritime transport.

Some 24.9 million people were transported within the corridor in January which is by 7.9 percent more than the same period of 2013, according to the committee report.

The revenues from the cargo transportation within the corridor amounted to 39.4 million manat which is by 2.9 percent more than in January 2013. The revenues from the passenger transportation amounted to 8.7 million manat which is by 12.9 percent more than in January 2013.

About 59 million tons of cargo was transported within the corridor through Azerbaijan, which is 3.8 percent more than in 2012. Some 285.2 million people were transported within the corridor in 2013 which is 9.3 percent more than in 2012.

The revenues from transportation of cargo within the corridor amounted to 476.4 million manat in 2013 which is 7.5 percent more than in 2012. In turn, the revenues from passenger transportation amounted to 106.5 million manat in 2013, which is 15.8 percent more than in 2012.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program covering transport between the EU and its partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

Currently, the TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Iran.
