Azerbaijani maritime administration comments on detention of Russian ships in Caspian Sea

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 27

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

Russian-flagged dry cargo vessels Vatan-1 and Zangan-1, detained in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, still can not leave Azerbaijan's territorial waters, according to a top official from Azerbaijani maritime administration.

Ehtiram Rahimov, the deputy head of Azerbaijani State Maritime Administration told Trend on March 27 that both vessels have certain technical incompatibilities with requirements set by Azerbaijan.

Aside from that the commercial issues in the form of port fees have not been resolved so far.

"The dry cargo ships have international crews and belong to the same ship-owner. Both ships will be able to leave the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea after addressing the technical incompatibilities and fulfilling commercial obligations," he said.

The maritime administration deputy head said the Gahraman-1 ship previously left the Azerbaijani territorial waters without fulfilling statutory obligations.

All these vessels are owned by the 'VTS-Trans' company and were engaged in the cement clinker carriages via the Russia-Azerbaijan route.

Rahimov stressed that in case of non-fulfilment of obligations set by the Azerbaijani side, specific measures will be taken against this dry cargo ship during its future voyages.
