Kazakhstan ups agricultural products export to Russia and Belarus

By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: Kazakhstan increased agricultural products export to its partners within the Customs Union -Russia and Belarus, Kazakh Agriculture Ministry reported on April 8.

"Kazakhstan's agricultural products export more than doubled in 2013 compared to a 7 percent increase in 2011. Meanwhile agricultural products import growth fell from 44 percent to 3 percent," the Ministry said.

Kazakhstan exported products of agroindustrial complex worth about $1 billion to Russia and Belarus in the three-year period since creation of the Customs Union, according to the ministry.

"Kazakh agricultural products such as beef and turkey, pasta and flour, sunflower oil and fish, etc. have found their niche in the markets of Russia and Belarus," the ministry said.

The Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus has been operating since 2010. It aims at forming a single customs zone where no duties or economic restrictions are applied, except special protective, antidumping and compensatory measures. The Common Economic Space within the Customs Union started to operate on Jan.1, 2012.
