Prices for food products slightly rise in Kazakhstan in March

The inflation in Kazakhstan was 1 percent in March 2014, compared to 0.2 percent in the same month of 2013, the country's Statistics Agency said.

The prices for food products increased by 1.3 percent in the country, compared to 0.2 percent in 2013, while the prices for non-food products rose by 1 percent (0.2 percent in March 2013), according to the Statistics Agency. Tariffs for paid services have increased by 0.5 percent.

The prices for the following products have increased at Kazakhstan's food market: fruits and vegetables by 5.1 percent, onions by 12.1 percent, cabbage 9 percent, potatoes 6.8 percent, sugar 5.8 percent, fish and seafood 1.8 percent, rice 1.7 percent, dairy products 1.2 percent, flour 0.9 percent, bread 0.8 percent. In addition, the prices for tobacco products have also increased 1.5 percent.

The prices dropped for eggs by 2.8 percent, buckwheat 1.5 percent and sunflower oil 0.6 percent, according to the agency.

The prices for the following non-food products increased in March: prices on outdoor clothing rose by 1.1 percent, footwear 0.6 percent, household goods 1.5 percent, household appliances and repairs 1.3 percent, detergents and cleaning products 1.4 percent, medicines 1.3 percent. Gasoline prices in Kazakhstan remained unchanged, while the prices for diesel fuel dropped by 0.1 percent during the reporting period.

The fees for housing and communal services have increased by 0.4 percent in Kazakhstan in March. The tariffs for garbage removal have increased by 5.2 percent, housing rent 0.8 percent, housing maintenance 0.2 percent. In addition, the prices for medical services increased by two per cent, transport services 0.9 percent, restaurants and hotels 0.8 percent in March 2014.

The inflation in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.3 percent in Jan.-March 2014, compared to 1.9 percent in the same period of 2013, according to the Statistics Agency. The prices for food products have increased by 3.3 percent, (1.1 percent in the first quarter of 2013), non-food products 3.2 percent (0.6 percent), paid services 3.3 percent (four percent).
