Iran’s crude steel output up by nine percent

Over 15.64 million tons of crude steel has been produced in Iran in the previous calendar year, which ended on March 20.

The figure shows some nine percent increase compared to its preceding year, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on April 20.

Mobarakeh Steel Company, Khouzestan Steel Company, And Esfahan Steel Company with 5.39 million tons, 3.551 million tons, and 2.27 million tons were the main producers of crude steel in Iran in the previous year.

Some 1.329 million steel ingots were produced in Iran in the last calendar month, which is nine percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

Iran produced around 1.26 million tons of crude steel in February, the World Steel Association said in its latest press release, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported on March 29.

The figure shows over 10 percent increase compared to its preceding month.

The figure is also five percent more than in the same month of the previous year.

The country's total output in the second month of 2014 amounted to 125 million tons, which is eight percent less than in January.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which is 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.

Iran plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
