The New Silk Road - connecting Asia with the changing world concept will be discussed at the upcoming 47th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Astana, the organizing committee created for this event said.

"This topic was proposed by the chairing country, Kazakhstan, due to the shift of economy towards the Asian markets," the organizing committee said.

Cooperation with the ADB is important for Kazakhstan. The parties are working on one of the largest transport projects, namely, the Western Europe - Western China road that will connect two continents. Kazakhstan's cooperation with this financial institution began in 1994. Throughout these years, ADB provided Kazakhstan with technical assistance on around 66 projects totaling $29.5 million.

The 47th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank will start on May 2. Around 3,500-5,000 people are expected to participate in this meeting. The expected participants include governors from ADB member states, finance ministers, heads of large international banks, financial organizations and leading specialists from government organizations, non-governmental and other organizations, the organizing committee said.

The ADB's headquarters is located in the capital of the Philippines, Manila. The bank was founded in 1966. The bank aims to contribute to the economic growth in the Asian and Far East regions, as well as to speed up the process of economic development of member states in these regions. Currently, ADB has 22 offices worldwide, including Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is represented by its Minister of Economy and Budget Planning, Erbolat Dossayev, and his deputy, Deputy Finance Minister, Ruslan Dalenov in ADB's Board of Governors.
